About
The Arthur’s Vineyard Swim Team is a neighborhood summer-only (May – June) recreational swim team that competes against other neighborhood teams. All Cobb County residents between the ages of 5 - 18 on May 31st is eligible to try out for the team.
Swimmers are expected to be able to swim the full 25 yards of the pool unassisted without touching the lane lines and/or the walls during tryouts. Some freestyle strokes should be evident during the 25. If swimmers are unable to swim the length of the pool unassisted, they can join our pre-competitive group, the C-Doos where they’ll gain the skills they need to join the team.
Other than the coaches, the team is run 100% with volunteers. Each family is responsible for volunteering to work at four of the five meets. You will have the opportunity to sign up for volunteer positions when you register. Please note, volunteering at 4 meets is a minimum and to actually staff all meets and ancillary positions many families volunteer at all 5. Volunteer jobs include lane timers, awards, scorekeepers, bullpen by age group and gender, snack bar, etc. The WaveRunners could not happen without all the parents helping as it takes many volunteers to run multiple Swim Meets (Home and Away), prepare social activities, order gear, throw an end of season party and more! Any money raised by the WaveRunners ultimately goes back to our swimmers and parents by paying for coaching, pools, equipment, social activities, t-shirts, medals, trophies and everything else. This is what makes summer swim possible!
WaveRunner Home Meets are held at the Arthur’s Vineyard pool, which for meets provides 4 competition lanes of 25 yards.
The Arthur’s Vineyard WaveRunners swim team is part of the Cobb Summer Swim League. Teams compete every week between late-May and the end of June. The Patti Wilder County Championship meet is conducted at the end of the season with swimmers competing from each team. Each year we continue to increase our presence at the Patti Wilder meet, please don’t hesitate to ask about if it you’re interested.
The Cobb Summer Swim League was formed to create a friendly atmosphere for the benefit and personal satisfaction of our children. The league strives to offer an opportunity for children and young people to challenge themselves, to learn and think in a positive manner, to be part of a team and enjoy the experience of friendly competition and good sportsmanship.
The summer league season is a fast paced 2 month period but everyone who experiences it has a great time, makes new friends and looks forward to the next year.
