3. Is my child old enough to be on the team?

Children who are aged 5 by May 31st, and who are able to swim one length of the pool unassisted (Cobb County Summer League policy) are welcome to join the Wave Runners and participate in swim meets.

Children who are aged 3 by May 31st and/or who cannot yet swim one length of the pool unassisted may join our C-Doo team. Our great coaches will make tremendous progress with our youngest swimmers in a surprisingly short time. Practices are conducted in small 2-4 person groups with an in-water and hands-on coach. There is a special C-Doo meet at our pool the last day of the season. Participation ribbons will be given. Advanced C-Doo (age 5 and up) will gradually work up to a Wave Runner level practice regimen and "graduate" when ready.

4. What time is practice?

Practice times are in the afternoon during school days, and then in the mornings once Cobb County schools are closed. More detailed information can found on the website under the "Practices" tab.

5. When and where are the swim meets?

There will be 5 swim meets in the season, one per week. Some meets will be held at our home pool and some will be held at the other team's pool. Swim meets begin at 6pm sharp. Arrival time at the pool is 4:45pm at home meets and 5pm at away meets. The meet usually ends between 9-9:30pm. Swim meet times and race schedules are determined by Cobb County and the meets are run by a county referee.

6. My child wants to come to swim practice, but doesn't want to do meets. Is that OK?

Yes. There is no obligation to do the swim meets.

7. Is it OK if we have to miss a swim meet?

Yes. But please let the coaches know in advance of any dates your swimmer will be missing. This is done by "declaring" your swimmer's availability on the schedule tab of this website. Coaches prepare the line up for a meet more than 48 hours in advance. We count on your swimmer being there and so does the rest of the team. If an emergency occurs on the day of the meet, please call one of the coordinators directly.

8. My child has changed his mind about swim team. Can I get a refund?

If you change your mind before the first swim meet - yes. There are no refunds after the first swim meet. Refunds will not be made for any prepaid swimwear purchases.

9. Do I need to buy a team suit and where do I get one?

If you child will be swimming in the meets, then we recommend that you buy a team suit. C-Doos will not swim in the regular swim meets and therefore will not need a team suit, but you are certainly allowed to buy one if you wish!  Boys must wear a tight fitting suit. Loose swim trunks are not allowed. See our team store for more information.

10. As swim team members, are we allowed to use the pool?

Membership to Arthur's Vineyard swim team permits you to use the swim facilities only during regular swim team practice hours, team events and meets. Swimming at any other time without home ownership (or without joining the HOA) is not permitted.

Please be aware: The baby pool is closed during ALL swim practices and swim meets. Younger and non participation siblings may not swim during these times.

11. Will we have practice or swim meets if it's raining?

Practices -As a general rule we will not hold practices if it is thundering or lightning. We will swim in the rain! When possible we will notify swimmers as soon as a decision is made via an email or a posting on the gate of the pool. If in doubt, please check your email prior to practices for the latest update.

Meets- the same applies. If you do not receive notification, come ready to swim! We will try to get the meet in if at all possible, if it is safe to swim. The Cobb County Referee will be the person responsible for making the decision to delay or cancel in the event of inclement weather during a meet.

12. Are private swim lessons available?

Individual swim lessons will be available from our coaches. See our swim coordinators for details

13. Do I have to volunteer? I have small children / My spouse travels / I can't come to the meet and my child is going with our babysitter/his grandparents.

We will make every effort to help you find an arrangement that works for you. But, yes, if you have a child swimming in the meet, you are required to provide 1 volunteer for that meet. This can be you, your spouse, a grandparent, a teenaged sibling, a babysitter, etc. We understand that sometimes this is not possible, so if you cannot provide a volunteer, we may have to ask another family to work 2 shifts. In this case, we ask that you work 2 shifts at the next meet. At home meets, each family will be assigned (at least) one volunteer position, and depending on how many swimmers are attending the meet, some families will be asked to work 2 shifts. Away meets require fewer volunteers, so some families will get to "take the night off". Priority will be given to those families who worked double shifts at the home meets and those families who have accrued the most volunteer hours. It takes A LOT of people to make a swim meet run! We appreciate your service so our kids can have a great experience.

14. I signed up to volunteer but something came up at the last minute and I can't make it!

Please call another parent on the team to fill in your spot. Once you have a replacement let the volunteer coordinator know.

15. When and where do I get my ribbons?

Ribbons will be in your file in the file box at the pool on morning following the Swim Meet.

16. I think there was a mistake with my child's ribbon / I was expecting a ribbon that wasn't in my file. Can I still get one?

Contact the Coordinator with questions about ribbons

17. Where should I park during practices and for swim meets?

During practices you can park in the upper and lower lots. You may also park on the right hand side of the roads surrounding the pool. The upper and lower parking lots are closed during home meets so that people delivering equipment and county officials have space to park. Please park on the right hand side of the roads. Details about parking at the away meets are located in the information about the meets under the "events" tab.

18. Will there be a team photograph?

Individual and team photos will be taken during the season and are purchased separately. Details will be sent out with more information.
